A scientific seminar was held at the Department of High-Molecular Compounds Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, Baku State University, in honor of the 120th anniversary of academician Yusuf Heydar oghlu Mammadaliyev. The seminar featured a presentation by Aynurə Karimova, a senior lecturer at the department, on "Magnetic drug delivery systems: Enhancing therapeutic efficacy in cancer treatment."
The department head, Rasim Alosmanov, welcomed the participants and noted that the anniversary events of academician Mammadaliyev continue to be organized. He emphasized that one of the modern directions in polymer chemistry is the stabilization of nanoparticles using various polymers, which have broad applications in medicine.
During the seminar, Aynurə Karimova provided an overview of modifying drug therapy with the help of nanoparticles and presented results from collaborative research with the Sarcoma Laboratory of Mannheim Clinical University, Germany. The study focused on increasing the anticancer potential of drug-loaded nanoparticles, optimizing drug loading efficiency, drug-to-carrier ratios, synthesis methods, and other parameters.
The research involved preparing iron oxide nanoparticles coated with dextran polymer and loaded with varying amounts of drugs, analyzing their physicochemical properties using different analytical methods, and conducting biological tests on cell lines. Participants discussed structure–function relationships of the drug-loaded nanosystems and potential future research directions.
The seminar concluded with a Q&A session with students, fostering an interactive scientific discussion.
