Scientific seminar on the modeling of the Hakari River held at the faculty of Geography
16-10-2025

A scientific seminar on “Modeling the Hakari River Using MATLAB Software” was held at the Faculty of Geography at Baku State University (BSU).

Opening the seminar, Professor Magsad Qocamanov, Dean of the Faculty of Geography, noted that organizing regular scientific seminars has become a tradition at the faculty. He emphasized the importance of strengthening scientific research activities within departments.

Associate Professor Saleh Nagiyev, Chair of the Department of Azerbaijani Geography and Geography Teaching Methods and Chair of the Faculty Scientific Seminar, introduced the participants to the seminar topic and wished the seminar success. He highlighted that the liberated territories of Azerbaijan are rich in water resources, making their modeling with modern research methods essential.

Associate Professor Banovshe Mehdiyeva, a specialist in mathematical modeling, has authored numerous studies in the field and conducts research at the Scientific-Research Institute of Water and Melioration, Azerbaijan State Agency for Water Resources (SMETI) on modeling rivers and flood events using MATLAB software. In her presentation, Mehdiyeva emphasized the importance of studying the hydrological regime of rivers to ensure the effective use of water resources in liberated territories. Her research covered certain aspects of the mathematical modeling of the Hakari River and its tributaries, using MATLAB to construct the model. She also discussed the river’s average annual flow, water resource management, flood events, and potential future usage.

Associate Professors Saleh Nagiyev, Irade Aliyeva, Sheker Mammadova, PhD Leman Hesenaliyeva, Senior Lecturer Mubariz Orucov, and others noted the relevance of the topic. The seminar concluded with a discussion session where questions from participants were addressed.
