Scientific Seminar on the Youth Library
14-10-2025

On 14 October 2025, the Baku State University Faculty of Information and Document Management hosted a scientific seminar organized by the Student Scientific Society (TEC) on “Acquisition Sources of the Jafar Jabbarli Republican Youth Library.” The presentation was delivered by Lalə Məmmədova, a graduate student from BDU’s Department of Library and Information Resource Management.

The seminar explored the operational scope of the Jafar Jabbarli Republican Youth Library, including its organizational structure, collection, acquisition sources, number of users, and ongoing digitization processes. Lalə Məmmədova highlighted that the library’s collection is developed through multiple channels, including purchases, collaboration with local publishers, donations from authors and other legal or physical persons, and resource exchanges with other libraries. She emphasized the continuous improvement of the library’s electronic information resources, ensuring the inclusion of works by local and international authors that align with the interests of young readers.

The seminar also stressed the importance of strategic planning in collection development, such as identifying relevant topics and subcategories, selecting new publications, forecasting future collection needs, monitoring user interests and preferences, managing subscriptions, and optimizing financial resources. Additionally, the seminar reviewed the library’s activities, including author meetings, book signings, presentations, collaboration with higher education institutions, partnerships with foreign libraries, and participation in digital platforms.

The presentation included graphs illustrating the growth dynamics of the library’s collection and comparative analyses. The seminar concluded with an interactive discussion among participants.
