Seminar dedicated to Science Day
03-03-2026

As part of a series of events marking Science Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan on 27 March, Baku State University (BSU) hosted another scientific seminar at its Faculty of Information and Records Management on 3 March 2026.

During the seminar, Associate Professor Parviz Kazimi of the Department of Library Science delivered a presentation entitled “BSU in Azerbaijan’s Scientific Potential.”

The presentation began with an overview of the history of science and highlighted Azerbaijan’s achievements in this field. Particular attention was given to the significant contributions made by National Leader Heydar Aliyev toward the development of science during both periods of his leadership. It was emphasized that this policy is being successfully continued under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. The speaker noted that the designation of 27 March as Science Day by a presidential decree signed on 9 April 2018 demonstrates the state's strong commitment to supporting scientific development and recognizing science as a strategic national priority.

The seminar also addressed emerging directions in science studies, contemporary research trends, and the integration of Azerbaijani science into the global scientific community. Particular emphasis was placed on the achievements of BSU, the country’s first and most prestigious higher education institution, which has attained notable positions in international university rankings in recent years. The speaker highlighted the university’s applied research activities and noted that many significant research outcomes produced by BSU scholars have been published in journals indexed in leading international scientific databases. Information was also provided on the Hirsch indices and citation metrics of BSU researchers, illustrating the growing international visibility and impact of their scientific contributions.

The presentation attracted considerable interest from participants and was followed by extensive discussions on the topics addressed.
