On November 5, 2025, a special lesson dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the liberation of Shusha was held at the History Faculty of Baku State University. The lesson was conducted by Mehman Abdullayev, Head of the Department of Azerbaijani History (for natural sciences faculties) and Associate Professor.
During his lecture, Mehman Abdullayev discussed the historical, cultural, and strategic significance of Shusha. He highlighted Shusha’s development as the political and cultural center of the Karabakh Khanate in the 18th century and its role as a cradle of Azerbaijani culture that nurtured prominent figures. He also emphasized that the liberation of Shusha on November 8, 2020, marked a turning point in Azerbaijan’s military history and national identity, achieved through the leadership of the Supreme Commander and the courage of the Azerbaijani Army, securing a significant place in the country’s statehood history.
The lesson covered the course of the Karabakh battles, the tactical features of the Shusha operation, and the post-liberation reconstruction and development activities in the city. Students actively asked questions and discussed the potential role of Shusha in the scientific, cultural, and social activities of future Azerbaijani youth. At the conclusion, Mehman Abdullayev noted that liberated Shusha symbolizes Azerbaijani identity and encouraged students to be more active in studying and promoting the historical heritage of Azerbaijan.
