Student-Led Sustainability Society — Baku State University
Baku State University promotes a student-centered approach and actively supports student-led societies across various thematic areas, including sustainability. Students are encouraged to participate in governance, teaching, innovation, and campus development processes. The University fosters a motivational, creative, and innovation-oriented ecosystem to equip students with 21st-century skills and enhance their competitiveness in both local and international labor markets.
A student society which is formed and operated by students for students, with a focus on the environment, green issues, conservation and/or climate issues. The aim is to utilise the intellectual and inventive capabilities of student-led organisations at Baku State University (BSU) in order to effectively engage them in the university's dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and bolster BSU's sustainability standing.
For more details please see Student led Society Policy
To support student-led engagement, the following institutional mechanisms are implemented:
Governance and Student Representation
-
Students have the right to establish unions or clubs aligned with their interests, values, and beliefs (within legislative provisions). These organizations operate independently and can recruit members freely.
-
Chairpersons of the Student Youth Organization and Student Trade Union Committee are elected democratically from bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students. The elected representatives serve as members of the University Scientific Council — the main governing body — ensuring student voices are reflected in institutional decision-making.
-
Students are also represented in Faculty Scientific Councils, contributing to governance at faculty level.
-
Student Youth Organization and Student Trade Union Committee are affiliated with national student union structures.
Student Participation and Feedback
-
Student and alumni feedback is regularly collected through anonymous surveys and analyzed to inform improvement plans.
-
During examination sessions, BSU establishes a student-based examination oversight body to monitor fairness and address complaints.
