The 1st Solidarity Forum of Student Trade Unions is currently taking place at Baku State University (BSU), organized by the BSU Student Trade Union Committee (STUC). Held for the first time, the forum is dedicated to 31 December – World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day, as well as the fifth anniversary of Azerbaijan’s historic Victory.
The event began with the performance of the National Anthem, followed by a minute of silence in honor of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
Speaking at the forum, BSU Vice-Rector for Social Affairs, Student Relations and Public Communications Alish Aghamirzayev emphasized that young people represent the driving and dynamic force of society and the hope for a prosperous future. He noted that Azerbaijani youth play a leading role in strengthening statehood in today’s independent, victorious, and sovereign Azerbaijan. According to the Vice-Rector, the state youth policy founded by National Leader Heydar Aliyev is being successfully continued and developed under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. Azerbaijani youth have made significant contributions to the historic Victory, the country’s overall development, and the reconstruction efforts in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur.
Alish Aghamirzayev also highlighted the important role played by BSU students and graduates in implementing state youth policy and underlined the University’s efforts to ensure these activities are carried out in an organized manner. In this context, he noted the establishment of the Department of Humanitarian Affairs and Youth Policy at BSU in 2020 as a pioneering initiative among higher education institutions. He further emphasized that the BSU Student Trade Union Committee, operating successfully for more than 50 years, is one of the most active student organizations in the country, uniting students, master’s students, and doctoral candidates, while promoting national values, statehood traditions, and the legacy of Heydar Aliyev. He expressed confidence that the forum would yield positive outcomes and encourage active participation from students of BSU and other universities.
Deputy Chairman of the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers Mirza Jafarzadeh stressed the importance of solidarity among young people who play a key role in the country’s public life, describing the forum as a successful step in this direction. Members of the Milli Majlis Aydin Huseynov and Sevinc Fataliyeva, as well as Chairperson of the Student Trade Union Committee of Azerbaijan University of Languages Zahra Huseynova, also highlighted the critical role of solidarity in Azerbaijan’s achievements and wished success to the forum.
The event continued with the screening of a video presentation showcasing the activities of the BSU Student Trade Union Committee. Chairperson of the BSU STUC Zohrab Javadzadeh presented an overview of the Committee’s activities during 2024–2025, noting that the forum would significantly contribute to networking and cooperation among student trade unions from different higher education institutions. He expressed confidence that the unity formed through this joint platform would contribute to the development of Azerbaijan and the revitalization of Karabakh.
The forum proceeded with an artistic program prepared by the BSU Culture and Creativity Center and will continue with a panel session titled “The Role of Youth in the Great Return: Organization and Solidarity Model of Student Trade Unions.”
