Training and Programs to Improve Access to Basic Services

Baku State University (BSU) actively contributes to enhancing community access to essential services through a range of educational, social, and awareness programs that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).

1. Training and Educational Programs

  • Public Health and Hygiene Awareness Seminars:
The Faculty of Biology and the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science regularly organize seminars and workshops for local communities and schools on topics such as clean water usage, sanitation practices, waste management, and environmental hygiene. These sessions aim to promote healthy living and environmental responsibility among citizens.

  • Clean Water Policy and Training (2024):
BSU’s Clean Water Policy was introduced to ensure sustainable water use across the campus and to promote community awareness on water conservation and pollution prevention. Training sessions for staff and students cover water-saving technologies, wastewater treatment, and eco-efficient landscaping practices.

  • Community-Based Environmental Education:
In collaboration with local municipalities, BSU organizes public lectures and youth programs focusing on recycling, energy efficiency, and sustainable consumption, enabling local residents to gain practical knowledge on improving access to environmental and basic public services.

2. Social Inclusion and Accessibility Initiatives

  • Disability Support and Accessibility Training:
The university’s Disability Support Policy ensures equitable access to education and campus facilities. Staff are trained to support students with special needs, and awareness sessions are held to promote inclusive education and social participation for persons with disabilities.

  • Health Screenings and Awareness Days:
BSU, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and various NGOs, organizes annual free health screenings, blood donation drives, and medical awareness campaigns to improve access to basic healthcare services among students and local communities.

3. Partnerships and Outreach

  • Collaboration with the Innovations and Development Support Public Union:
BSU provides free access to its facilities—including classrooms, libraries, and Internet—to support community language training and conversation clubs. These initiatives benefit students from multiple universities and local residents, improving access to educational and communication resources.

  • Engagement in National and International Programs:
Through local and other international cooperation projects, BSU staff participate in training on sustainable urban development, clean energy, and digital access, later adapting these models for local community workshops.
