Turkology Congress marks its 100th anniversary
04-05-2026

On May 4, 2026, the Faculty of Information and Document Management at Baku State University (BSU) hosted a scientific seminar dedicated to the First Turkology Congress. The event was organized by the Student Scientific Society (SSS). During the seminar, Cahan Ahmadli, a master's student of the Department of Library and Information Resources Management, delivered a presentation entitled “The First Turkology Congress in the Context of Azerbaijan–Türkiye Scientific and Cultural Relations.”

The speaker highlighted the significance of the Presidential Order signed by President Ilham Aliyev on October 22, 2025, regarding the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the First Turkology Congress, emphasizing the importance of further research in this field. The presentation noted that the First Turkology Congress, held in Baku from February 26 to March 6, 1926, played a crucial role in the scientific, cultural, social, and political life of Turkic peoples and became a significant milestone in strengthening integration among them.

It was stressed that the historic congress contributed to the national awakening of Turkic peoples in the early twentieth century and created an important platform for scholarly discussions on common language, history, and cultural heritage.

The research presented at the seminar examined, through historical documents and evidence, the contribution of the congress to the development of scientific and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye. Particular attention was given to its role in preserving and transmitting shared cultural heritage to future generations. The study also included a classification of documentary and information resources related to bilateral relations, an analysis of archival and bibliographic sources, and a review of the issues discussed and decisions adopted during the congress.

In addition, books and academic articles devoted to the congress over the past century were analyzed, while statistical data on relevant publications held in national library collections were presented in a chronological framework.

The seminar concluded with discussions and an exchange of views among participants.
