Year of Urban Planning and Architecture
07-04-2026

A scientific seminar dedicated to the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture” in Azerbaijan was held at the Faculty of Information and Document Management of Baku State University (BSU). At the seminar, Associate Professor Nadir Ismayilov, Head of the Department of Document Management, delivered a presentation titled “Information Resources on the Architectural Monuments of Shusha, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World.”

In his presentation, Nadir Ismayilov emphasized the significance of the Presidential Decree of 22 December 2025 declaring 2026 the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture” in Azerbaijan and highlighted the importance of conducting scientific research on the subject from various perspectives.

The presentation provided a comprehensive analysis of the rich architectural heritage of the city of Shusha and the ways in which its historical and cultural monuments are represented in information resources. It was noted that Shusha is not only an important cultural center of Azerbaijan but also of the wider Turkic world, making the systematic documentation, digitization, and integration of its architectural heritage into the international information environment a matter of considerable importance.

The study examined both the architectural monuments themselves and the information resources created about them. Documentary and digital resources were comparatively analyzed with regard to their structure, informational value, and use in academic research. It was emphasized that the systematic analysis of such resources contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of architectural heritage and supports the development of effective information systems in this field.

The presentation also addressed the role of libraries and information institutions in developing information resources on architectural heritage, the importance of applying modern metadata standards, and ongoing projects in this area.

The seminar concluded with an active discussion among participants.
