An event titled “Urban Planning Structure of the Karabakh Region: Before and After Occupation” was organized by the Student Youth Organization of the Faculty of Chemistry at Baku State University, dedicated to the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture.”
The Deputy Dean for Social Affairs and Student Work of the Faculty of Chemistry, Taleh Qahramanov, emphasized that Karabakh is one of Azerbaijan’s strategically important regions. He noted that before the occupation, urban planning in these areas was based on national architectural traditions, while during the occupation significant destruction was inflicted, and infrastructure was destroyed. It was highlighted that the main goal of the reconstruction works in the liberated territories is not only restoration but also the formation of a modern living environment in line with contemporary urban planning principles. The importance of implementing “smart city” and “smart village” concepts was also emphasized.
Students Aysu Imanova and Ofelya Musazade delivered presentations on the urban characteristics of Karabakh, the destruction during the occupation period, and ongoing reconstruction projects. They also provided information about the restoration of historical monuments and infrastructure.
The event concluded with the screening of a video highlighting the pre-occupation state of Karabakh, the destruction during the occupation, and the ongoing reconstruction process.
