Baku State University Strengthens Capacity-Building for Policy- and Law-Makers on Critical Issues
Baku State University (BSU) continues to advance its mission of outreach, education, and capacity-building for policy- and law-makers in fields including economics, law, technology, migration and displacement, and climate change. Through a series of innovative programs, collaborative events, and research initiatives, BSU is contributing to informed decision-making and sustainable development in Azerbaijan.
Joint Event at Shirvan National Park
On May 22, 2024, BSU partnered with the Biological Diversity Protection Service under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources to organize an event at Shirvan National Park in celebration of International Biodiversity Day. The program featured expert presentations and exhibitions, offering students valuable insights into the park's initiatives on restoring and reintroducing endangered species. This initiative aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
Republic Scientific Conference on Climate Change and Ecosystems
BSU hosted a Republic Scientific Conference titled “Global Climate Change and Modern Ecosystem of Azerbaijan” on May 17, 2024. The event fostered dialogue among researchers, policymakers, and academics, highlighting the impact of climate change on national ecosystems and strengthening capacity-building on climate-related policies.
Painting Exhibition on Environmental Awareness
In May 2024, the Faculty of Chemistry organized a painting exhibition dedicated to the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World.” Showcasing 30 student artworks focused on environmental conservation, the exhibition promoted awareness and active engagement in protecting the environment among students and the wider community.
Ecological Seminar and Cleaning Campaign
On April 23, 2024, BSU collaborated with the “Regional Development” Public Union to host an ecological seminar and shoreline cleanup campaign for International Earth Day. The seminar covered topics including climate change, ecosystem impacts, and environmental responsibility, while the cleanup campaign provided hands-on experience for students and volunteers, strengthening public awareness and environmental stewardship.
Book Exhibition on Environmental Topics
BSU’s Scientific Library hosted a book exhibition in January 2024, titled “The Year of Solidarity for the Green World,” featuring over 100 publications on ecology, environmental policy, and sustainability. The exhibition offered students, researchers, and policymakers essential resources to support evidence-based decision-making and understanding of environmental challenges.
Research on Green Energy Production
BSU researcher Lala Kahramanli conducted innovative studies on green energy production, focusing on the stability of MAPbX3 perovskite structures for solar cells. Published in Ovonic Research, this work contributes to sustainable energy solutions and highlights BSU’s commitment to advancing green technology research.
Through these initiatives, Baku State University continues to provide education, training, and capacity-building for policymakers and law-makers, reinforcing informed decision-making on critical issues such as climate change, economics, and law.
