Researchers of the Biology Faculty of Baku State University (BSU) have published a scientific article in a high-impact international journal issued by Springer. The paper, authored by Professor Rovshan Khalilov and Associate Professor Aygun Nasibova, is entitled “Biogenic Magnetic Nanoparticles and Hepatic Structural Alterations: Insights into Radiation Stress Responses in Polymer-Like Biological Systems”. The article has been published in Polymer Bulletin, a journal indexed in the Web of Science and Scopus databases with an impact factor of 4.
The study investigated laboratory rats exposed to different doses of radiation using Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The researchers demonstrated for the first time that exposure to stress factors can induce biomineralization processes in the liver, leading to the formation of crystalline iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles. The type and size of these nanoparticles were identified through TEM analysis.
The findings provide new insights into biological responses to radiation stress and contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of biogenic magnetic nanoparticles in living systems. The research also highlights the potential application of advanced analytical techniques in studying structural and functional changes in biological tissues under stress conditions.
The publication of this article in a prestigious international journal reflects the growing contribution of BSU researchers to global scientific knowledge and demonstrates the university’s commitment to high-quality research and international academic visibility.
