BSU hosts roundtable dedicated to the World Day for Safety and Health at Work

A roundtable discussion titled “let us ensure the creation of a healthy psychosocial work environment” was organized at Baku State University (BSU) by the Trade Union Committee on the occasion of April 28 – the World Day for Safety and Health at Work.

Head of the Department of Social Work at BSU, Associate Professor Uzeyir Shafiyev, noted that the World Day for Safety and Health at Work was proclaimed by the International Labour Organization on April 28, 2003, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of safe and healthy working conditions. He emphasized that one of the main priorities of state policy in Azerbaijan is ensuring decent work and providing safe and healthy working environments. Referring to global challenges identified by the International Labour Organization and measures taken in Azerbaijan, he also analyzed statistics on occupational accidents and work-related diseases worldwide.

Head of the Labour Protection and Safety Department at BSU, Ruslan Shamiyev, stated that the right to work in safe and healthy conditions is enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, adopted under the leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. He also noted that the Labour Code adopted in 1999 covers labour protection standards, as well as legal, organizational, technical, and financial aspects. In addition, he informed participants about ongoing improvements in labour rights protection and occupational safety at BSU.

Later, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law and lecturer of the Department of Labour and Environmental Law Narmin Hasanli, as well as psychologist Ilkana Mansumova from the Psychological Support Sector of BSU, delivered presentations on key legal and psychological challenges encountered in the workplace and possible solutions.

The event concluded with a discussion on the topic.
