At Baku State University (BSU), a scientific seminar titled “Kharaba Gilan Settlement: The Secrets of Mausoleum No. 1” was held, organized by the Archaeology Training and Research Center.
During the seminar, leading researcher of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS, PhD in History Elvin Aliyev delivered a comprehensive presentation. The report focused on the results of recent archaeological excavations conducted at the medieval settlement of Kharaba Gilan, located in the Ordubad region of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Within the framework of the presentation, detailed information was provided on the study of Mausoleum No. 1, which is part of the Second Memorial Complex, including its architectural features and the archaeological findings discovered there. Special attention was paid to the human remains found in the crypt, their anthropological characteristics, and issues of chronological classification. Research findings indicate that the crypt dates back to the period of the Hulagu Khanate.
The seminar also included a semantic analysis of the archaeological materials obtained from the crypt. Among the findings, textile fragments stood out due to their uniqueness. Various astronomical symbols, as well as human and animal depictions, were identified on these fabrics. Scientific insights were also shared regarding the preservation of colors in textile samples that are over 600 years old.
The topic was met with great interest by participants, and the seminar continued in an interactive discussion format.
