Sustainable Development Goals at Baku State University.

Students of Baku State University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science and the Student Youth Organization, organized an excursion titled “Urban Transition: From Icherisheher to White City” within the framework of the “5 Days Urban Week” project dedicated to the Year of Urbanism and Architecture.

During the visit, students explored the historical urban environment of Icherisheher, where they examined the preservation of cultural heritage sites, early urban planning characteristics, architectural styles, and the socio-cultural context of the area. The excursion provided participants with a deeper understanding of how historical urban structures were formed and developed over time.

The program continued in White City Baku, where students observed modern urban development models in practice. They analyzed sustainable urban planning approaches, environmental considerations, and ongoing redevelopment projects reflecting contemporary city-building principles.

Throughout the excursion, participants compared historical and modern urban landscapes, gaining practical insight into the gradual evolution of urbanization. Discussions also focused on balancing heritage conservation with modern urban development trends, highlighting sustainable development as a key priority.

The initiative aimed to strengthen students’ interest in urban planning and architecture, enhance their theoretical knowledge through field-based learning, and encourage them to think in line with sustainable development principles.
