Students of Group K011I from the Faculty of Chemistry at Baku State University (BSU) began their industrial internship on 16 February. As part of the program, the students are gaining practical experience at four leading institutions specializing in chemistry-related fields:
Central Chemical and Toxicological Laboratory under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Institute of Geology and Geophysics under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency
Azerbaijan Food Safety Institute
During the internship period, students are divided into four groups and rotate among the institutions, participating in practical training sessions at each organization. This approach enables them to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, develop skills in working with modern laboratory equipment, and gain a deeper understanding of analytical methods.
Faculty member Minaya Khanim visited the Central Chemical and Toxicological Laboratory to monitor the internship process and observe the students’ practical activities. At the laboratory, students are acquiring knowledge and skills in areas such as the determination and quantitative analysis of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Hg, etc.), detection of narcotic and psychotropic substances in biological samples, measurement of alcohol levels in blood and other biological fluids, substance separation and purification techniques, and sample preparation and mineralization for physicochemical analyses.
Students are also receiving hands-on training with advanced analytical instruments, including ICP-MS, LC-MS/MS, GC, and UV–Vis spectrophotometers. In addition, they are becoming familiar with quality control procedures, calibration curve construction, statistical processing of analytical results, and the use of standard and reference materials.
The internship program plays an important role in preparing students for their future careers as professional chemists by strengthening their practical competencies, analytical thinking skills, and readiness for employment.
