An event dedicated to the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis was held at the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of Baku State University. The event was organized by the faculty’s Student Youth Organization.
The program began with a minute of silence in memory of the victims commemorated on this day, as well as those who lost their lives in defense of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
During the event, Ismayil Aliyev, Professor and Head of the Department of Life Safety, Gismet Khanbabayev, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Soil Science and Real Estate Cadastre, and second-year Ecology student Deniz Zeynalli delivered presentations on the historical events commemorated on 31 March.
The speakers stated that the mass killings, repression, deportation, and displacement of Azerbaijanis constitute one of the most tragic chapters in the history of the twentieth century from the Azerbaijani perspective. They also referred to events that took place in Baku, Shamakhi, Guba, Karabakh, Zangezur, Mughan, Khachmaz, Nakhchivan, Lankaran, and other regions of Azerbaijan, noting that large numbers of civilians were killed and that cultural and religious heritage sites, including historical buildings and mosques, were destroyed.
The event concluded with discussions on the historical significance of the commemorative day and the importance of preserving historical memory.
