A Republican scientific-practical conference titled “Protecting Women's Health: Multidisciplinary Approaches” was held at Baku Medical Plaza to commemorate the 103rd anniversary of the birth of the distinguished ophthalmologist and scientist, Zarifa Aliyeva.
The conference was organized by Baku State University and the Association for Supporting Women's Health, with the partnership of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, TABIB, and Baku Medical Plaza.
Opening the conference, Professor Afat Mammadova, Dean of the Faculty of Biology at Baku State University, highlighted Zarifa Aliyeva’s exceptional contributions to the development of medical science in Azerbaijan, her outstanding personal qualities, and her rich scientific legacy in the field of ophthalmology. She emphasized that Academician Aliyeva’s lifelong dedication to science and public service continues to serve as an inspiring example for society.
During the official session, presentations were delivered by Gunay Ahmadova, Co-Chair of the Association for Supporting Women's Health and PhD in Medical Sciences; Ilkana Karantarli, Deputy Chief Physician of Baku Medical Plaza; and Professor Rovshan Khalilov, Head of the Department of Biophysics and Biochemistry at BSU. The speakers stressed the importance of modern approaches to women’s healthcare, strengthening preventive medicine, and enhancing cooperation among medical professionals from different specialties.
Participants noted that Zarifa Aliyeva’s memory is honored with great respect and that her scientific achievements and professional values remain an important guide for contemporary healthcare specialists.
Following the official session, a documentary video showcasing the life, scientific achievements, and professional legacy of Zarifa Aliyeva was presented.
The conference continued with panel discussions focusing on women’s health protection, early diagnosis, reproductive health, modern treatment protocols, pregnancy monitoring, prevention of gynecological diseases, and multidisciplinary medical approaches. Renowned physicians and experts exchanged views on current challenges in women’s healthcare, innovative diagnostic opportunities, patient-centered medical services, and the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in clinical practice.
Speakers emphasized that women’s health can be more effectively protected through the combined efforts of specialists in gynecology, endocrinology, oncology, radiology, laboratory diagnostics, psychology, biology, and other related fields. They also highlighted the importance of public awareness, regular medical examinations, and early medical consultation.
The conference was accredited by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and participants were awarded six Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits.
The event served as an important platform for promoting the scientific legacy of Academician Zarifa Aliyeva, discussing modern biomedical approaches to women’s health, and strengthening scientific and professional collaboration among specialists.
