A scientific seminar entitled “Treatment of Oil-Contaminated Water with Bio-Nanoadsorbents Using Low-Waste and Zero-Waste Technologies” was held at the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of Baku State University as part of activities dedicated to Science Day in Azerbaijan.
The seminar was presented by Ulkar Nagiyeva, a former doctoral student of the Department of Environmental Chemistry. In her presentation, she discussed modern methods for the purification of oil-contaminated water and the synthesis of new-generation biosorbents and bio-nanoadsorbents.
The speaker explained the oil adsorption capacity of the synthesized bio-nanoadsorbents and demonstrated how their performance varies depending on factors such as temperature, contact time, and pH. She also provided detailed information on the adsorption properties of Fe3O4 superparamagnetic nanoparticles and their potential role in environmental remediation.
During the seminar, particular attention was given to the importance of implementing low-waste and zero-waste technologies as sustainable solutions to contemporary environmental challenges. The presentation highlighted the potential of innovative adsorption materials to improve the efficiency of wastewater treatment processes while reducing environmental impacts.
The seminar continued with discussions, during which participants’ questions were answered.
