Scientific seminar held at the Department of High Molecular Compounds Chemistry for Science Day
19-02-2026

A scientific seminar dedicated to 27 March – Science Day was held at the Department of High Molecular Compounds Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry. First-year master's student Aykhan Aliyev delivered a presentation on “Physical and Chemical Properties of Nanoparticles Used as Drug Carriers.”

During the seminar, the speaker explained in detail how the size and shape of nanoparticles, as well as their surface energy and surface charge, influence their optical, magnetic, and electrical properties. It was emphasized that the targeted modification of these parameters enables more effective use of nanostructures in various fields, particularly in biomedical applications.

The presentation also highlighted the practical significance of iron oxide (magnetite), gold, and silver nanoparticles, which are widely used in modern medicine for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. Their biocompatibility, targeted delivery capabilities, and imaging potential were discussed as key advantages.

At the conclusion of the presentation, Aykhan Aliyev noted that his current thesis research focuses on coating magnetite nanoparticles with citric acid and chitosan, as well as investigating drug loading and controlled release processes within these systems. The work conducted on each sample and the expected outcomes were presented comparatively.

The seminar continued with interactive discussions and concluded with a question-and-answer session.
