A training session titled “Family: Values and Traditions” was held at Baku State University (BSU) through the joint initiative of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs and the “BSU Volunteers” organization, within the framework of the “My Family Volunteers” program. The session was delivered by the Director of the Baku Theological College, Mehman Ismayilov, and Chief Advisor of the Committee, Rafiq Mahmudov.
The Secretary General of the “BSU Volunteers” organization, Gasim Khalilov, noted that a strong family model forms the foundation of society and emphasized the importance of organizing awareness-raising events in this direction in line with BSU’s 2026 social activity plan.
Rafiq Mahmudov analyzed statistical indicators related to marriage and divorce rates both nationally and globally, highlighting that recent trends necessitate the implementation of targeted measures to strengthen the institution of the family. He emphasized that promoting family values, mutual respect, and responsibility—especially among young people—is one of the priority areas of the Committee’s work. In this regard, various awareness projects, psychological support programs, and social initiatives are being implemented. It was noted that marriage is not limited to the establishment of legal relations but represents a significant stage involving changes in individuals’ lifestyles, social behavior, and sense of responsibility. Ensuring the sustainability of the family institution requires coordinated efforts from both state bodies and society as a whole.
Mehman Ismayilov подчеркнул that adherence to national and moral values plays a crucial role in forming a healthy and sustainable family model. He described the family not only as a social institution but also as a moral pillar of society, whose strength depends on preserving traditions formed over centuries. At the same time, he stressed that while commitment to tradition is important, openness to innovation and modern trends is equally necessary. The harmony between tradition and innovation contributes to building healthy intra-family relationships, strengthening intergenerational ties, and fostering the proper development of younger generations.
The training concluded with a Q&A session with participants.
