Uzbek doctoral students and BSU students participate in a scientific-practical training program in Azerbaijan
20-02-2026

With the initiative of the Biology Faculty, a scientific-practical training program was organized for doctoral students from Bukhara Medical University, along with master's students and first-year Biotechnology students of Baku State University (BSU). The program aimed to provide participants with hands-on experience in modern laboratory technologies, applied analytical methods, and current research directions.

As part of the program, participants became acquainted with ongoing scientific research conducted in the specialized laboratories of the BSU Biology Faculty. They received detailed information about projects in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, genetic analysis, and plant biotechnology. The operation of laboratory equipment, sample preparation procedures, and the interpretation of analytical results were demonstrated in a practical setting, helping participants strengthen their theoretical knowledge through direct laboratory experience.

The participants also visited the Department of Biochemistry and clinical laboratories of Azerbaijan Medical University under the guidance of Associate Professor Roza Mammadova from the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies. During the visit, presentations were delivered on the organization of clinical laboratory diagnostics, the application of molecular biological methods in medicine, and fully automated analytical systems. In the Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory, participants observed the barcode-based identification of samples and high-throughput analytical processes.

The program continued the following day at the Agricultural Research Institute, where participants were introduced to agricultural and biological research activities and laboratory analysis techniques. As part of the training, Ismail Hakki Tas, Director of Science and Innovation at QIAGEN, conducted a practical workshop on the Glacial Advance capillary electrophoresis system, explaining its operating principles and data analysis procedures.

The program contributed to the development of practical knowledge and laboratory skills among both Uzbek doctoral students and BSU students, while also strengthening international scientific cooperation and creating opportunities for future collaborative research projects.
