As part of a series of events dedicated to "Science Day" in the Republic of Azerbaijan on March 27, a scientific seminar was held at Baku State University (BSU) on the topic "New Approaches to Quality Preservation in Fresh Fruits and Vegetables" by Professor Mustafa Erkan, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Akdeniz University, Turkey.
Professor Mustafa Erkan shared the latest scientific achievements regarding the long-term preservation of the freshness of fruits and vegetables, optimization of storage conditions, and post-harvest technologies with the participants.
He provided detailed information on modern technologies applied to extend the shelf life of agricultural products, including atmospheric control, special packaging methods, and bioengineering solutions.
The professor also discussed methodologies applied to improve the quality of apple and tomato varieties, which are characteristic of Azerbaijan, as well as the use of environmentally friendly and effective pesticides to combat plant diseases and pests. He also shared information about modern processing and storage technologies applied post-harvest to maintain the freshness, nutritional value, atmospheric control, and special packaging of fruits and vegetables.
The seminar participants asked questions about the preservation of food quality in the food industry, ecological sustainability, and the application of technologies that meet consumer demands, engaging in an interactive discussion with the expert.
