Employees of the Biodiversity Conservation Service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources conducted a training session at the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of Baku State University (BSU) in connection with World Reserves and National Parks Day on January 11.
During their presentations, the head of the department of the Biodiversity Conservation Service, Elnur Ibrahimov, and the department's consultant, Aytaj Khalafli, provided detailed information on specially protected natural areas, including national parks, state nature reserves, and state nature sanctuaries, as well as the latest developments implemented in these areas.
The presentations also covered the planned establishment of a "Geopark" based on the Absheron mud volcanoes group State Nature Reserve and a "Biosphere Reserve" based on the Zagatala State Nature Reserve. Additionally, the creation of two new national parks—Bozdag National Park and Ilisu National Park, which will be based on the existing Ilisu State Nature Reserve—was discussed.
It was noted that currently, there are 10 national parks and 10 state nature reserves operating in the country.
