As part of the 105th anniversary of Baku State University (BSU), a presentation titled "The Green Thinking Space" was held by the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science.
In his speech at the event, BSU’s Vice-Rector for Educational Organization and Teaching Technologies, Farida İmanova, highlighted that despite being the youngest faculty at the university, the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science stands out for its activities. She mentioned that successful scientific research is being conducted at the faculty on ecological problems, soil science, and global climate change. One of the current global issues is the threat to environmental stability, with the increasing risk of the collapse of existing ecosystems. The urgency of solving ecological problems without delay is driving an increasing demand and interest in ecological knowledge. In this regard, there is a great need for specialists trained by the faculty.

Subsequently, video clips showcasing the activities of the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science were presented.

The Dean of the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science, Akif Aghbabali, reviewed the faculty’s history and development path. He noted that following the declaration of 2010 as the "Year of Ecology" in Azerbaijan, the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science was established by a decision of the BSU Scientific Council, based on the relevant departments of the Faculties of Biology, Geography, and Chemistry. The official opening of the faculty took place on March 3, 2011. He said, “The Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science studies issues related to the protection and more efficient use of natural resources and conditions, land cadastre, soil assessment, ecological fertility models, environmental impact assessment, and monitoring of production waste from oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. Currently, the faculty has 5 departments and 2 teaching laboratories, with a teaching staff of 45 professors and lecturers. The faculty educates 870 undergraduate students, 85 master's students, 9 doctoral students, and 4 dissertation students. Graduates of the faculty are actively involved in the reconstruction and restoration processes in our liberated territories.”

Professor Sevinc Haciyeva, Head of the Department of Ecological Chemistry, emphasized the significant role of the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science in ecological education and research, as well as in the training of professional ecologists. She noted that many programs and projects are currently being implemented in the country for the protection of the environment and its comprehensive monitoring. The Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science is closely involved in the implementation of these programs and projects.

Professor Shovgi Goychayli of the Department of Geographical Ecology discussed the visionary policies implemented since the period when National Leader Heydar Aliyev came to power, aimed at improving the ecological situation in Azerbaijan and training qualified specialists in this field.

The event continued with a literary and artistic composition prepared by the students of the faculty.
