BSU hosts scientific seminar titled ‘Increasing the Number of Plant Species Resilient to Environmental Stress in Azerbaijan’

Biological Faculty of Baku State University's (BSU) has hosted a scientific seminar titled ‘Increasing the Number of Plant Species Resilient to Environmental Stress in Azerbaijan’.
Associate Professor of Botany and Plant Physiology, Doctor of Biological Sciences Zulfiya Mammadova, made presentation on the topic ‘Increasing the Number of Plant Species Resilient to Environmental Stress in Azerbaijan’. Zulfiya Mammadova highlighted that 2024 had been declared in the country as the "Year of Solidarity for the Sake of a Green World." According to the scientist, the fact that the 29th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will take place in the country in November of this year, and the prioritization of "Country of Clean Environment and Green Growth" as one of Azerbaijan's five socio-economic development priorities until 2030, imposes significant responsibilities on biologists.

During the seminar, detailed information was provided on plant representatives resilient to environmental stresses with the aim of greening the country. Planting evergreen trees and cultivating plants to restore a rich floristic composition in areas affected by environmental genocide during the Armenian occupation were recommended.
