Professors from the Faculty of Biology at Baku State University (BSU), Mirmusa Cəfərov, Yusif Abiyev, PhDs in Biology Vazeh Bakhshiyev, Sevinj Mammadova, and Tahir Yunuslu participated in a roundtable dedicated to the 21st anniversary of the creation of Hirkan National Park, held in Lankaran.
The event, organized by the Biodiversity Protection Service under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, was attended by scientists from BSU, Lankaran State University, the Institutes of Zoology and Botany, as well as representatives from the Lankaran Regional Tourism Department, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and partner organizations contributing to the activities of the National Park.
The event emphasized the importance of Hirkan National Park, located in the southeastern part of Azerbaijan, known for its rich biodiversity and rare flora and fauna species. Experts highlighted the necessity of joint cooperation to protect the park's rare ecosystems, expand scientific research, and contribute to the development of ecotourism. During the discussions, the importance of including the Hirkan forests, one of the rarest forest massifs in the world, which cover the southwestern and southern coasts of the Caspian Sea, in the UNESCO World Heritage List was also brought to attention.
At the end of the event, participants exchanged ideas on strengthening cooperation for the future development of Hirkan National Park and the implementation of broader scientific and ecological projects for nature conservation.
