Baku State University, a leading educational and scientific institution in Azerbaijan, has established a modern Center for Research, Development, and Innovation Excellence. The Center aims to attract innovative and creative researchers who trust in their talent and capabilities, contribute to nurturing a new generation of scientists, and implement transformative advancements in education and science. Ultimately, the goal is to align education, science, and industry. The Center will house over 70 researchers working across nine laboratories.

In these newly established industry-oriented laboratories, researchers, including scientists, students, master's and doctoral candidates, as well as professionals from industry, will develop solutions for the industrial and business sectors. This initiative will bring the worlds of science and education closer to the realms of industry and business.

The primary initial target sectors for the Center are the oil and gas industry, mining, agriculture, and food safety. Research areas include nanotechnology, molecular biology and virology, biotechnology, industrial chemistry, analytical chemistry, ecology, earth sciences, astrophysical and atmospheric sciences, and digital research. Several projects have already commenced in these fields based on industry demands. The Center is also provide short courses tailored for professionals seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge in various fields.

It should be noted that many industrial enterprises in Azerbaijan currently conduct laboratory measurements outside the country. With the establishment of the BDU Excellence Center, it will now be possible to perform these measurements within Azerbaijan. Through the Center's activities, researchers will work in a modern environment that meets international standards, benefiting from global expertise and providing ample opportunities for the new generation of researchers.

One of the key features of this first-of-its-kind Center in Azerbaijan is its accessibility not only to BDU students and staff but also to highly qualified researchers and talented students across the country.

The Excellence Center, in collaboration with the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBİA), will support the development of partnerships between the public, private, and industrial sectors based on mutual interest in innovative solutions. To promote innovative entrepreneurship among students and young researchers, an Incubation and Acceleration Hub will be established at BDU with the support of KOBİA.

BUİLD LLC, established by BDU, will operate as a technology transfer office, facilitating the use of the Center's infrastructure by young people, enhancing collaboration opportunities between the private sector and the university, and realizing the "from theory to business" principle in startups and business ideas.
