Foreign Student: I Want to Be the First Ambassador of the Comoros Union in Azerbaijan
10-02-2025

Oussamaben Mohamed Ali is a foreign student from the Comoros Islands at Baku State University (BSU). He completed his bachelor's degree in his home country. While studying Arabic language courses in Saudi Arabia, he learned about the "Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant" program. Afterward, he decided to pursue his education in Azerbaijan. Currently, Oussamaben is studying in the preparatory groups at BSU. His next step is to pursue a master's degree in the Faculty of International Relations and Economics.

  • Oussamaben, how did you decide to study at BSU?
  • After completing my bachelor’s degree in my home country, I participated in Arabic language courses in Saudi Arabia. During that time, I learned about the "Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant" program. When I researched Azerbaijani universities, I saw that BSU ranked highly in the ratings. So, I decided to pursue my master’s degree in International Relations and Economics here. Studying at BSU is a new chapter in my life, and I believe it will open many great opportunities. BSU is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Azerbaijan. This creates a rich educational environment for both students and professors. Additionally, I need to learn the Azerbaijani language better. I am working hard to overcome the language barrier. In the future, I want to work as a diplomat. Good communication skills are crucial for me to succeed in this field.
  • How has the cultural diversity in our country affected you?
  • Cultural diversity is a new experience for me. It helps me learn more about both the country and its people. Initially, adapting to a new country and a different culture took time. However, I found very sociable and friendly people at the university, and I made friends. These people helped me a lot in adapting to Azerbaijan.
  • How is your social life?
  • When I first came to Baku, the weather was very cold. Since the Comoros Islands have a tropical climate, I had difficulty adapting to the cold November weather. Getting to know Azerbaijani cuisine was also very interesting. The food here seemed very different to me, but over time, I grew to love both the climate and the rich flavors of Azerbaijani dishes. I especially love Azerbaijani pilaf, but I think it would be perfect if it were spicier. Now, my social life here is more colorful. The various events and discussions at the university are very interesting and beneficial. For me, this is the greatest advantage.
  • How are your classes in the preparatory groups?
  • In the preparatory group, I study with students from different countries and cultures. This not only increases academic knowledge but also allows the integration of various cultures, ways of thinking, and life philosophies. Being with people from different cultures improves my social skills and helps increase mutual understanding and respect, while also supporting the building of new friendships.
  • I heard that you live in the "Student House" at BSU. Are you satisfied with the conditions there?
  • The conditions in the "Student House" are very convenient. Living comfortably while studying allows me to focus more on other activities. The kitchen, library, and other leisure facilities offer students various opportunities. I usually cook our national dishes. We can meet with friends and spend our free time productively whenever we want. I feel comfortable and safe here, just like at home.
  • What are your future goals?
  • I want to be a useful specialist for my country. My goal is to develop international relations between my country and Azerbaijan. I want to be the first ambassador of the Comoros Union in Azerbaijan.
