A republic-wide scientific conference titled “The New Stage of Land Reform and the Resolution of Ecological Problems” was held at Baku State University (BSU), organized by the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science in commemoration of the 102nd anniversary of the birth of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
The event began with the playing of the State Anthem, followed by a minute of silence in memory of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
Mais Suleymanov, Director of BSU’s Center for Scientific Activity Organization and Innovations, noted that during both periods of Heydar Aliyev’s leadership, significant achievements were made in the development of agriculture and the agrarian sector in Azerbaijan. It was during this time, thanks to his attention and care, that successful reforms were carried out in irrigation and water management, cotton growing, viticulture, and other agricultural fields. Numerous decrees, orders, and state programs and laws were enacted. The land reforms successfully implemented after Azerbaijan gained independence are also closely associated with the National Leader’s name.
Akif Agbabali, Dean of the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science, provided detailed information about Heydar Aliyev’s role as the architect and founder of the independent Azerbaijani state, highlighting the reforms he carried out toward democratic and legal state-building. He emphasized that throughout his socio-political career, Heydar Aliyev worked tirelessly for Azerbaijan’s development and did not spare any effort for the nation and its people.
Sevinj Hajiyeva, Chair of the Department of Ecological Chemistry and professor, spoke about the National Leader’s contributions to environmental protection in Azerbaijan and his ecological policies. She stated that many ecological projects were implemented during his tenure and that ecological issues became an integral part of state policy under his leadership. The main goal of this policy was to minimize the harmful impact of human activities on nature, ensure the efficient use of natural resources, strengthen legislation aimed at environmental protection, and restore ecosystems.
Garib Mammadov, Head of the Department of Soil Science and Real Estate Cadastre and academician, discussed the essence of Heydar Aliyev’s Land Reform Model. Elmar Allahverdiyev, Chairman of the Board of the Scientific-Research Institute of Vegetable Growing under the Ministry of Agriculture, addressed the National Leader’s contributions to the development of agriculture. Shovqi Goychayli, professor at the Department of Geographical Ecology, shared detailed information about Heydar Aliyev’s legacy and the conservation of Azerbaijan’s natural environment. The speeches emphasized that with Heydar Aliyev’s return to political power, Azerbaijan embarked on a path of sustainable development, established stability, and achieved significant successes in foreign policy.
