15-11-2024

A round table on the topic "Ecological Awareness, Ecological Education, Ecological Culture" was held at the Department of Philosophy of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology at Baku State University (BSU), dedicated to the importance of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), hosted by Azerbaijan.

The head of the Department of Philosophy, Kamala Penahova, stated that the COP29 conference is a significant event for both our country and the entire world. She noted that the understanding of the deep ecological crises affecting our planet is reflected in ecological awareness: "For the realization of ecological awareness, personal will, ecological action, the accumulation and exchange of ecological experience, and communication of ecological culture within society are necessary. The escalating ecological situation of the environment requires a new perspective on human-nature relations. That is why the holding of the COP conference is of great importance. It is crucial for all countries to act responsibly to prevent global warming."

Later, the Deputy Dean, Nazakat Karimova, spoke, emphasizing that ecological problems do not recognize national borders and have become a global issue. She highlighted that people and governments now understand that if they do not change their relationship with nature and do not stop the inefficient use of its resources, this process will turn against them and lead to undesirable consequences.

Faculty members of the Department of Philosophy, Ismail Alekberov, Zeynab Manafova, Aysan Aliyeva, and Melahet Mammadova, provided information about the history of the COP, the importance of holding such an important event in Azerbaijan, and the measures being taken in this regard. They also spoke about the "smart city" and "smart village" projects being implemented in the territories liberated from occupation, and the necessity of creating national reserves. The speakers then exchanged views on the crucial role of ethical responsibility and a sense of justice in the fight against climate change.
