A round table discussion on "Who is the Ensurer of Ecological and Socio-Economic Sustainability at COP29" was held at Baku State University (BSU) jointly organized by BSU and the Educational Institute (ARTI) with the support of BSU's Student Youth Organization, within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
The moderator of the event, Aynur Pashayeva, head of a department at ARTI, emphasized the importance of conducting awareness campaigns about climate change and COP29 in educational institutions, noting that the topic is highly relevant and that the round table would be interesting and thought-provoking for students. She provided information on the efforts being made in Azerbaijan for the protection of the environment and ecology, as well as the measures taken to prevent problems arising from climate change.
During the round table, Associate Professor Qoshgar Mammadov from BSU presented on "Green Economy and Sustainable Development of Agriculture," highlighting that agriculture is a vital center for the green economy. He touched on key issues such as efficient use of natural resources, minimizing losses, and increasing productivity through reducing environmental impacts.
In his presentation titled "Climate Change and Azerbaijan," Associate Professor Azer Jafarov noted that climate change is not a new phenomenon for our planet. There have been periods of cooling and warming in our geological history, and since these changes occurred gradually, they did not hinder the adaptation of ecological systems.
Associate Professor Ilgar Khalilov from the Azerbaijan State Economic University spoke on "COP29 as a Provider of Economic Sustainability," while his colleague Jamila Hasanova discussed "COP29 and the Promotion of Social Justice: Digital Governance Technologies for Social Equality." Makhabbat Pashayeva, a leading expert at ARTI and a candidate of biological sciences, addressed the topic "The Importance of COP29 for Azerbaijan in the Year of Solidarity for a Green World."
The round table continued with discussions.
