A scientific seminar dedicated to the "Green World Solidarity Year" in Azerbaijan was held at the Faculty of Information and Document Management of Baku State University (BSU).
At the seminar, Pervez Kazimi, Associate Professor of the Library Science Department at BSU, delivered a presentation on the "Green Library Concept." The significance of the decree by President Ilham Aliyev declaring 2024 as the "Green World Solidarity Year" in Azerbaijan was highlighted. The seminar also discussed various projects being implemented in this regard. It was emphasized that hosting the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan during the "Green World Solidarity Year" is a testament to the trust placed in our country and its leadership.
The presentation focused on the concept of the green library, a new and important direction in library and information services. The role and significance of this concept in society’s life were explained in detail. Information on research conducted by foreign experts in this field was shared with the participants. A presentation based on reports from the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and related documents examined the purpose, architecture, and objectives of the green library concept at a scientometric level.
Pervez Kazimi noted that expanding the green library movement and standardizing and certifying such libraries are current challenges. He emphasized: "In the implementation of the green library concept, factors such as energy conservation, the protection of the environment, and human health should be at the forefront, and infrastructure that meets these important requirements should be established."
The seminar also addressed the existing resources and potential of libraries in Azerbaijan in this area.
