Scientific Seminar on "Green Libraries"

A scientific seminar dedicated to the "Year of Solidarity for the Green World" was held in Azerbaijan with the participation of professors and teaching staff, doctoral students and master's students at the Faculty of Information and Document Management of Baku State University (BSU). At the scientific seminar, head of the Department of Document Management of BSU, associate professor Nadir Ismayilov gave a report on "Green Libraries". In the report, the historical importance of President Ilham Aliyev's Decree on declaring 2024 as the "Year of Solidarity for the Green World" in the Republic of Azerbaijan was brought to attention, and the tasks ahead in this direction were discussed. It was emphasized that holding the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Azerbaijan in the "Year of Solidarity for the Green World" is a high indicator of great trust and confidence in our country.

The concept of green library was explained in the report, and it was noted that this concept is a new direction in library-information activities. The mission, architecture and functions of green libraries are presented at the modern elmometric level. The emergence and development stages of the green library movement in different countries of the world, issues of standardization, branding and certification of this type of libraries, the support of international organizations to the green library movement were explained. It was stated that during the implementation of the green library model, environmental, economic and social sustainability should be taken into account, the harmony of the library building with nature should be ensured, and infrastructure should be formed that will contribute to the environment and human health by saving energy and other resources.

Talking about the existing resources, opportunities and potential of our country in this direction, the speaker emphasized the necessity of using the green library model in the reconstruction projects of the library infrastructure in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, which were freed from occupation.

The scientific seminar aroused the great interest of the participants, and extensive discussions were held around the report.
