A scientific seminar on "Social work with children with autism" was held at the initiative of the Department of Pedagogy of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology of Baku State University (BSU). Nargiz Aliyeva, director of the Children's Rehabilitation Center No. 2 of the State Medical Social Expertise and Rehabilitation Agency under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, founder of the "House of Dreams" Social Integration Center, director of the Center, representative of the "Child with a Future" Foundation, social integration specialist William Albert Peters, assistant of the Department of Special Pedagogy at Adelphi University, USA, Steven Shore, doctor of educational sciences, participated.
Rovshan Javadov, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology, said that this scientific seminar will be of great importance for students studying social psychological assistance and corrective training. Because Stephen Shore and William Albert Peters themselves suffer from autism, they have a lot of experience in this field.
Steven Shore, PhD, assistant professor of special pedagogy at Adelphi University, USA, said that he overcame this disease with the great dedication and strong support of his parents. He informed the students about his personal experience and talked about ways to develop appropriate social skills in children to cope with autism.
