Seminar at BSU: Utilizing Sustainable Development Goals in the Context of Education

Shahin Panahov, the Vice-Rector for International Relations at Baku State University (BSU) and a candidate in geographical sciences, recently conducted a scientific seminar titled "Sustainable Development Goals and Their Implementation in Education" at the Faculty of Biology.

The speaker gave information about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), targets and indicators, a concept designed to solve various problems faced by humanity at the global, regional, national, and local levels, and the development program covering the years 2016-2030. He highlighted the global system of indicators, comprising 231 SDG indicators, with a total of 248 when considering duplicates. Panahov further briefed participants on the interconnection between education, biological diversity, and the SDGs. He underscored the accomplishments in SDG implementation within Azerbaijan and elucidated the challenges lying ahead. Highlighting the necessity of formulating new national strategies, programs, and action plans to advance sustainable development Panahov stressed the need to fortify statistical capabilities for acquiring high-quality, current, and reliable data. He advocated for the establishment of an efficient, systematic, and regular evaluation mechanism involving collaboration among civil society, the state, the private sector, and other stakeholders tailored to national conditions and priorities.

In conclusion, Panahov engaged with participants, addressing their inquiries and fostering a comprehensive understanding of the seminar's subject matter.
