Baku State University (BSU) Faculty of Biology is a leading research and education center for biological sciences in the country. The faculty is equipped with 6 departments and 13 modern teaching laboratories. From the second year of undergraduate study, students are involved in scientific research conducted within these departments.
Students and graduate students have the opportunity to conduct research at laboratories under the BSU Center for Research, Development, and Innovation, including Biomolecular Engineering, Microbiology, and Virology research labs.
The faculty hosts departments in Botany and Plant Physiology, Biophysics and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Zoology and Physiology, Genetics, and Biomedical Materials. Research is conducted in various scientific directions with student participation.
Undergraduate programs offer six specializations:
Biology: Graduates can work in research institutes, industry laboratories (food, pharmaceuticals, etc.), water quality control labs, and medical research facilities.
Biology Education: Graduates are prepared to teach Biology with high professionalism in secondary educational institutions.
Aquatic Bioresources and Aquaculture: Graduates can work in organizations involved in the production, conservation, and management of aquatic resources.
Biotechnology: Graduates can work in biotech-driven production facilities (dairy, meat products, beverages, pharmaceuticals), agricultural biotech labs, and research institutes.
Plant Protection: Graduates can work in institutions under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, national parks, reserves, and research institutes.
Food Engineering: Graduates can work in educational and production facilities, particularly in laboratories of the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency and research institutes.
Instruction at the faculty is provided in Azerbaijani, Russian, and English.
