The Student Scientific Society (SSC) of Baku State University (BSU) has initiated a seminar series in alignment with the "Year of Solidarity for the Green World." Mais Süleymanov, the director of BSU's Center for Organization of Scientific Activities and Innovations, announced that the inaugural seminar engaged faculties including Chemistry, Physics, Geography, History, Ecology, and Soil Science.
He emphasized that among the five national priorities for socio-economic development in Azerbaijan until 2030, one key focus is on fostering a "Country of clean environment and green growth." In accordance with this priority, efforts are underway to enhance environmental conditions, promote reforestation, and ensure efficient utilization of water resources and sustainable energy sources. Given that 2024 is designated as the "Year of Solidarity for the Green World," a series of scientific events such as conferences, seminars, masterclasses, competitions, and Olympiads are being organized to address this significant theme.
Tahira Huseynzade, a student from the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science, presented a report focusing on urban planning strategies aimed at creating functional and sustainable urban spaces. She highlighted successful case studies from cities like Copenhagen, Singapore, and Vancouver, which have implemented practices such as bicycle infrastructure, green roofs, and vertical gardens. Huseynzade also discussed planned initiatives in Azerbaijan, including national greening and waste recycling programs.
Aygün Azizova, another student from the Faculty of Geography, explored the application of innovative technologies in urban planning and green development. Azizova emphasized the importance of implementing steps for the sustainable development of cities, emphasizing the role of green infrastructures in mitigating carbon emissions.
Ugur Kismatli, a student from the History Faculty, provided insights into anthropogenesis, highlighting the influence of geography on the evolution of early human species and the development of diverse cultures. He also discussed the role of modern humans in shaping civilizations and their impact on economic processes.
Gulben Mammadova, a student of the Faculty of Chemistry, delivered a speech on green fuels and their utilization, underscoring the environmental damage caused by fossil fuels. She elaborated on the procurement of green fuels and fuel additives as eco-friendly alternatives.
Orkhan Gulahmadov, a doctoral student from the Faculty of Physics, along with his student Gurban Mammadli, delved into renewable energy sources and hybrid energy systems, particularly hydroelectric power plants (HPP). Their presentation covered the physical principles behind renewable energy, future prospects, and the technology involved in developing HPPs for energy supply in residential areas.
