Training at BSU: "The role of youth in the transition to green energy"

In partnership with the Departments of Ecology and Soil Science, Journalism, and the "EkoSfera" Ecological-Social Center Public Union, Baku State University (BSU) orchestrated an interactive training session titled "The Role of Young People in the Transition to Green Energy," in commemoration of the "Year of Solidarity for the Green World," tailored specifically for students.

The purpose of the training is to educate about the prevention of the destructive risks of climate change and threats to energy security in the world, "green energy" sources in our country, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29).

During the event, speeches were delivered by notable figures including Firuza Sultanzade, Associate Professor at the Department of Bioecology of BSU, who also serves as the head of the "EkoSfera" Ecological-Social Center Public Union and is a member of the Organizing Committee for COP29. Additionally, Akif Aghbabali, Dean of the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science at BSU and a Doctor of Philosophy in Biology underscored the country's pioneering role in implementing progressive strategies aimed at transitioning to green energy within the region. Furthermore, Vugar Aliyev, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and a member of the Supervisory Board of MEDIA emphasized in his address the nation's significant contributions to combating the ramifications of climate change. The holding of COP29 in Azerbaijan will allow us to demonstrate our country's achievements in the field of alternative energy technological solutions to the whole world. On December 25 of last year, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree declaring 2024 "the year of solidarity for the sake of a green world" in the Republic of Azerbaijan to strengthen international solidarity in the global fight against climate change. The document outlines sustainable development as a fundamental pillar for fostering a competitive economy, alongside the transformation of the nation into an exemplar of environmental cleanliness and the promotion of green growth, all identified as primary priorities.

Parvin Azizli, the program coordinator of EcoSfera Environmental-Social Center Public Union, made presentations on "COP29: climate action and commitments towards a sustainable future", Leyla Gasimova, "Transition to Green energy", and Farid Seyfullayev, "Leadership skills in the field of climate change".

The training concluded with a fruitful exchange of opinions regarding the pivotal role of students from the Faculty of Journalism in generating media content pertinent to COP29.
