A student camp titled “AstroCamp 2026” was held in Mingachevir at the “Kur” Olympic Training and Sports Center through the joint organization of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Baku State University (Baku State University).
The camp opening ceremony was dedicated to the 825th anniversary of Nasir al-Din al-Tusi, highlighting his scientific legacy and contributions to astronomy and mathematics. Speakers from Baku State University and the Ministry emphasized the importance of the camp in strengthening students’ scientific worldview, promoting awareness of Tusi’s heritage, and enhancing knowledge in astronomy and physics.
During the first day, participants attended a technical training session on telescope systems led by Xıdır Mikayılov, Associate Professor at the Astrophysics Department of Baku State University. Students learned about telescope structure and observation methods and conducted solar observations.
Another session titled “At the Intersection of Two Universes: Space and Earth” explored the use of space technologies in environmental monitoring and climate change observation.
On the second day, participants conducted night observations of Venus and Jupiter, followed by an “Astroquiz Kahoot” competition, where the winning team was awarded certificates.
Additional activities included an art therapy session titled “Feelings from the Stars”, interactive games, and networking activities organized by the Baku State University Volunteers organization. A training session on Sustainable Development Goals: Let’s Protect the Planet Earth was also delivered, emphasizing environmental responsibility and global sustainability.
The camp concluded with a screening of the film Interstellar, providing a thematic link between science, imagination, and space exploration.
