Beginning with the 2026/2027 academic year, Baku State University (BSU) will introduce its first Master's specialization in Bioinformatics at the Faculty of Biology.
Bioinformatics is one of the fastest-growing multidisciplinary fields in modern science and biotechnology, integrating biology, molecular genetics, computer science, mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, and artificial intelligence. Through this specialization, graduate students will acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, biostatistics, biological data processing and visualization, big data analysis, algorithm development, bioinformatics software and databases, as well as the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence in biological and medical research.
Students will also develop professional competencies in genome sequence analysis, biomarker identification, genetic variation assessment, personalized medicine approaches, and computational modeling of biological processes.
Graduates of the program will be qualified to pursue careers in research institutes, universities, medical genetics and molecular diagnostics laboratories, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, genome and molecular biology centers, technology companies specializing in artificial intelligence and data analytics, agricultural and agri-biotechnology enterprises, public health and epidemiological monitoring organizations, as well as international research projects and scientific consortia focused on bioinformatics, genomics, and biomedical data analysis.
Career opportunities include positions as bioinformatics specialists, genomic data analysts, biostatisticians, researchers, data analysts, programmer-analysts, and other related professional roles.
SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
