Baku State University (BSU) and the Forensic Science Center of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan have signed a cooperation memorandum to support the modernization of the country’s forensic science sector, prepare highly qualified forensic experts, and strengthen the integration of academic research with professional practice.

Under the memorandum, the two institutions will collaborate in the training of forensic specialists, the enhancement of students’ practical knowledge and skills, the promotion of scientific research, the integration of innovative technologies into forensic examinations, and the preparation of joint scientific publications.

As part of the partnership, BSU students majoring in mechanics and mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, ecology and soil science, geography, philology, geology, and law will have the opportunity to undertake internships at the Forensic Science Center. Specialized training programs will also be introduced to prepare experts in relevant fields.

In addition, the parties plan to implement joint research projects and professional development programs in areas including forensic handwriting examination, forensic authorship analysis, forensic biology, technical examination of documents, forensic materials science, forensic psychology, forensic ballistics, forensic trace evidence analysis, forensic examination of audio and video recordings, and forensic linguistics.

The memorandum establishes an important platform for expanding scientific knowledge in forensic science, strengthening the link between education and professional practice, engaging young specialists in forensic work, and contributing to the development of forensic services in Azerbaijan in line with international standards.

Following the signing ceremony, representatives of the Ministry of Justice’s Forensic Science Center toured BSU’s modern infrastructure, museums, and Scientific Library.

The memorandum was signed in support of the implementation of the Concept for the Development of Forensic Science in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026–2030, approved by a Presidential Decree on 11 December 2025. The partnership aims to help define the required higher education fields for the Forensic Expert profession and facilitate the recruitment of qualified specialists into the country’s forensic science system.
