Baku State University (BSU) has achieved a major milestone in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, earning a place in the 101–200 band and entering the global Top 200 for the first time. The university significantly improved its performance from last year’s 401–600 band, reflecting substantial progress in its contribution to sustainable development.
More than 1,600 higher education institutions were assessed in the 2026 edition of the rankings. BSU was evaluated across 16 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and achieved outstanding results in several categories. The university ranked among the global Top 100 in five SDGs: 23rd for SDG 1 (No Poverty), 63rd for SDG 4 (Quality Education), 3rd for SDG 5 (Gender Equality), 40th for SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 92nd for SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).
The THE Sustainability Impact Ratings are among the world's most respected international rankings evaluating universities’ contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Institutions are assessed based on their performance in education, research, governance, social responsibility initiatives, societal impact, and environmental sustainability, providing a comprehensive measure of their commitment to sustainable development.
The latest achievement further confirms BSU’s steadily strengthening position in the global higher education landscape. The university’s advancement reflects its systematic institutional efforts to promote social responsibility, inclusiveness, equal opportunities, quality education, and sustainable development. The improved ranking also enhances BSU’s international academic reputation, attractiveness for global partnerships, and potential for strategic collaboration.
The BSU administration congratulates the university’s academic staff, employees, students, and partners on this significant achievement, as well as the communities of other Azerbaijani higher education institutions represented in the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026.
