Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, Baku State University (BSU) will offer a new Master's specialization in Political Geography at the Faculty of Geography.

Political Geography is a key academic discipline that examines the political and geographical characteristics of states, geopolitical processes, border issues, regional development, and the spatial dimensions of international relations. The growing complexity of global and regional political developments, changing international dynamics, increasing geopolitical challenges, and expanding international cooperation have created a strong demand for highly qualified specialists in this field. In this context, the introduction of the new specialization at BSU represents an important academic and practical initiative.

The programme will provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in geopolitics, electoral geography, limology (border studies), political regional studies, and other contemporary areas of political geography. Graduates will develop the ability to analyse the world's political map, assess international and regional developments from a spatial perspective, conduct analytical research, and interpret modern political processes using scientific approaches.

The curriculum will also offer opportunities to conduct research based on contemporary geopolitical theories, apply political analysis methods, prepare analytical reports, participate in research projects, and strengthen professional competencies through international best practices.

Graduates of the programme will be prepared for careers in government institutions, local executive authorities, think tanks, research institutes, and higher education institutions.

The new specialization is expected to contribute significantly to the development of geopolitical research, strengthen scientific capacity in political geography, and prepare professionals capable of analysing contemporary international challenges.
