BSU launches master’s specialization in Artificial Intelligence
25-06-2026

:Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, Baku State University (BSU) will introduce a new master’s specialization in Artificial Intelligence within the Computer Science program at its Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become one of the key driving forces behind global economic, scientific, and social development. The rapid pace of digital transformation, the processing of large-scale data, the growing use of automated decision-making systems, and the widespread adoption of smart technologies have significantly increased the demand for highly qualified AI professionals. In this context, the establishment of the new AI specialization at BSU is of considerable academic and socio-economic importance.

Today, AI technologies are widely applied across strategic sectors, including healthcare, education, finance, industry, transportation, agriculture, and security. Public institutions and private organizations are increasingly adopting AI-based solutions to improve operational efficiency. This trend is also evident in Azerbaijan, where the demand for AI specialists is expected to continue growing. As a result, universities play a vital role in preparing graduates with the modern knowledge and skills required by the evolving labor market.

The Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics possesses a strong scientific and methodological foundation for delivering graduate education in artificial intelligence. Core disciplines underpinning AI—including mathematical modeling, optimization methods, probability theory, statistical analysis, algorithm design, programming, and information technologies—are closely aligned with the faculty’s teaching and research strengths. The introduction of the new specialization will further enhance the faculty’s academic potential and promote the development of new research directions.

The master’s program in Artificial Intelligence will contribute to strengthening Azerbaijan’s innovation ecosystem, increasing the international competitiveness of scientific research, and expanding collaboration between universities and industry. Students will acquire advanced knowledge and practical skills in machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, natural language processing, intelligent data analysis, and other cutting-edge AI fields, preparing them for successful careers in both academia and industry.

The launch of the Artificial Intelligence specialization at BSU represents a strategically important step toward meeting the demands of the digital era. The program will support the education of highly qualified professionals, contribute to the implementation of the country’s digital development strategy, strengthen research capacity, and enhance Azerbaijan’s participation in global technological advancement.
