BSU to hold an international conference jointly with the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture
14-05-2026

On May 15, 2026, Baku State University and the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan will jointly organize an international conference titled “Developing Human Capital for Sustainable and Resilient Urban Development.”

The event is one of the main activities of the “Baku Urban Planning Week 2026” platform organized within the framework of the World Urban Forum 13. Organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, the World Urban Forum is regarded as one of the leading global platforms for dialogue on sustainable urbanization.

“Baku Urban Planning Week 2026” serves as a national platform for the exchange of ideas, academic discussions, and the expansion of partnership opportunities in preparation for this important global event. Within this framework, the conference aims to connect the country’s academic and institutional potential with the international agenda and to explore approaches for developing human capital for sustainable and resilient urban growth.

The conference will highlight the decisive role of human capital — including education systems, scientific research capacity, professional training, institutional competencies, and digital literacy — in sustainable urban development. Multidisciplinary approaches covering urban planning, architecture, engineering, ecology, economics, law, social sciences, and digital technologies will also be discussed during the event.

The conference will bring together heads of state institutions, representatives of the United Nations, international experts, scholars, and specialists in urban development. Particular attention will be devoted to topics such as inclusive and sustainable urban development, climate resilience, affordable housing, digital transformation and the role of artificial intelligence in urban governance, as well as the strengthening of institutional and legal frameworks.

Within the framework of the conference, the book “Urban Future – Cities of the Future”, edited by Musa Marjanli, Director of the Cultural Heritage Research Center of BSU, will also be presented.
