Ramil Hasanov, a doctoral student at the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of Baku State University (BSU), has conducted another stage of scientific research in the Kizilagach National Park. The main objective of the study was to gain a deeper understanding of the park’s biodiversity and assess ecosystem dynamics.
During the fieldwork, particular attention was paid to the distribution and behavioral characteristics of nesting bird species, as well as the species composition of reptiles and amphibians inhabiting the area. Observations were also carried out to determine the daily activity patterns of predatory mammals. To achieve these objectives, monitoring of nesting birds was conducted in the aquatic area of the Small Kizilagach Bay, where species diversity and chick survival rates were assessed. Various research methods were also applied in the terrestrial part of the park to investigate the current condition of ecosystems and the diversity of local flora and fauna.
Another focus of the research was the assessment of the impact of climate change and the declining water level of the Caspian Sea on different landscape types within the national park. The collected data will contribute to forecasting future ecological changes and strengthening the scientific basis for conservation measures.
Such studies carried out in Kizilagach National Park are of significant scientific importance for biodiversity conservation, sustainable ecosystem management, and the development of ecotourism in Azerbaijan’s protected natural areas.
