“Greetings to Shusha” literary and artistic event held at BSU
04-05-2026

A literary and artistic event based on the “Greetings to Shusha” project by poet, translator, and alumnus of the faculty, Salim Babullaoglu, Secretary of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, was held at the Faculty of Information and Document Management of Baku State University (BSU).

The event began with the performance of the National Anthem, followed by a minute of silence in memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan. A video dedicated to the country’s historic victory was also screened.

Dean of the Faculty of Information and Document Management Alamdar Jabbarli spoke about the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty achieved through the bravery of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces under the leadership of President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the worthy successor of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. He particularly emphasized the historical significance of the liberation of Shusha during the 44-day Patriotic War. According to the dean, this victory enriched contemporary Azerbaijani literature with new themes, inspiring poets and writers to produce numerous works dedicated to the strength of the Azerbaijani state, the determination of its leadership, and the heroism of its soldiers.

Providing information about the “Greetings to Shusha” project, Salim Babullaoglu noted that, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the partnership of Space Television, 44 renowned poets from nearly 30 countries, including Azerbaijan, recited poems dedicated to Shusha. These poems were later published in a collective volume. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering patriotism among students.

During the event, well-known poets Ilgar Fahmi and Salim Babullaoglu, BSU deans Aydan Khandan and Alamdar Jabbarli, as well as department head Knyaz Aslan, recited their poems dedicated to Shusha. Faculty members, students, and the children of staff members also presented works by Azerbaijani and international poets devoted to the city.

The literary and artistic evening continued with musical performances dedicated to Shusha by students of the Faculty of Information and Document Management. The event also featured an art exhibition showcasing works on the theme of Shusha by young artist Aytac Aslan.
