The 6th International Student Symposium, dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, was held in Bartın, Türkiye. The event was jointly organized by the Faculty of Information and Document Management of Baku State University (BSU) and the Department of Information and Document Management of Bartin University. The symposium opened with the national anthems of Türkiye and Azerbaijan, followed by a minute of silence in memory of Heydar Aliyev, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, and the martyrs of the Turkic world.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Rector of Bartın University Ahmet Akkaya highlighted Heydar Aliyev’s significant contribution to strengthening friendship and brotherhood between Azerbaijan and Türkiye. He noted that bilateral relations had reached their highest level under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Referring to the 44-day Patriotic War and the reconstruction efforts in Karabakh and East Zangezur, he emphasized that the symposium reflected the spirit of the motto “One nation, two states” and provided an important platform for young researchers from different countries.

Co-chair of the symposium from the Turkish side and Head of the Department of Information and Document Management at Bartın University, Ahmet Altay, spoke about the growing cooperation between his department and BSU’s Faculty of Information and Document Management through joint conferences, masterclasses, and scientific seminars. He expressed confidence that the symposium would serve as a valuable platform for young scholars.

Representing the Azerbaijani side, Dean of BSU’s Faculty of Information and Document Management, Alamdar Jabbarli, conveyed the greetings of BSU Rector Elchin Babayev and thanked the leadership, academic staff, and students of both universities for organizing the event. He emphasized BSU’s long-standing role as a leading center of science and education in Azerbaijan and highlighted the university’s extensive academic cooperation with Turkish higher education institutions.

The symposium also featured remarks by representatives of several Turkish universities, including Istanbul University, Ankara University, Izmir Katip Celebi University, Kastamonu University, Cankiri Karatekin University, Ataturk University, and Istanbul 29 Mayis University. Speakers noted that the symposium would help identify new priorities in the field, strengthen links between education and research, expand scientific cooperation, and encourage young researchers.

During the plenary session, presentations were delivered by Professor Hasan Keseroglu and BSU Associate Professor Rashad Gardashov.

Over the course of two days, more than 60 students representing various universities presented their research at thematic sessions. BSU students Aziza Rahimova and Aydan Alizade delivered presentations and answered questions from participants. The publication “Heydar Aliyev – 100: Bibliographic Information Book”, issued by decision of the BSU Academic Council, was donated to the library of Bartın University.

As part of the symposium program, a poster exhibition titled “Next-Generation Library Services” was opened, and participants visited libraries and museums in Bartın and the town of Amasra.
